ProPakistani reports that 15,000 WiMAX customers from Karachi are transfered to Qubee and soon the company will announce its clousre. Due to the increasing penetration of DSL broadband and the success of EvDO technology, WiMAX operators are facing hard time in Pakistan and after the launch of 3G, their future doesn’t look so bright either. Telenor Sells first SIM through Biometric Verification System in Karachi Posted: 03 Dec 2013 08:21 PM PST Telenor Pakistan has started selling SIMs using the recently installed Biometric Verification System (BVS) for activation of SIMs in Karachi. It has deployed BVS at 29 point of sales across Karachi, ensuring that all Sales & Service Centers and Franchises in the city are BVS compliant. Telenor Pakistan completed BVS deployment in Karachi on November 30 and starting December 1, all SIM sales through BVS are underway at all of Telenor Pakistan's Sales & Service Centers and Franchises in Karachi. Telenor Pakistan's staff along with channel partners was trained on the new system to ensure seamless transition to meet customer demands. Moreover, in order to facilitate consumers, special SIM sale counters for BVS have been setup alongside placement of informative posters, standees and handing out of brochures. Commenting on this development, Lars Christian Iuel, CEO, Telenor Pakistan expressed satisfaction and said, "We are pleased to announce that we have completed the implementation of Biometric Verification Systems at all our outlets in Karachi to ensure higher accuracy of subscriber data. We are confident that BVS will further help us address the issue of unregistered SIMs and prevent the irregular use of cellular connections. We are extremely grateful to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, Ministry of Information and Technology, National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and the Ministry of Interior for helping us in this process. We have deployed the systems in Karachi fully and have trained our resources and staff to make the process efficient and effective. In phase II, we will deploy biometric verification at all Telenor Pakistan Franchises and Sales & Service Centers across Pakistan." Telenor Pakistan has procured and deployed state of the art German technology with zero rejection rate to ensure an efficient verification process.
