Samsung has recently updated its ChatON messenger for Android, with support for SMS and MMS. An alternate to WhatsApp, ChatON is a mobile messaging service that serves more than 237 countries in 63 languages.

ChatON is currently available for Android, iOS, BlackBeryy, Windows Phone, Windows Mobile and Samsung Bada based smartphones and tablets. Among ChatON’s unique features are allowing users to create Anicon (Animation messages which the recipient can watch), Broadcast to send personal notices in a group chat room, Live Translation and the Trunk which stores media files shared in chats.

It merits mentioning here that Google also added the SMS & MMS functionality to its Hangouts application in a latest update. Samsung suggests that the new application performs best on Samsung Galaxy S3, S4 and Galaxy Note 2, 3.(with Android ICS or higher OS version installed). If you have other applications that currently handle SMS messages, like Hangouts, Facebook and Go SMS, it is advised to turn off their SMS notifications in order to avoid abnormal behavior.

The Honest Mobile Theif Returns Victims Contacts List, Handwritten on 11 Sheets of Paper

Posted: 25 Nov 2013 06:50 PM PST

What’s your major concern if your phone is lost or stolen? some people might be worried about their photos and other data but for most of people its the contact numbers.

The same thing happened with Zou Bin in China, his iPhone was stolen when he shared a cab with an unknown person. As soon as he realized that his phone is stolen he started sending threatening messages to his stolen phone number, asking the thief to return the phone or get ready to face severe consequences.

Zou Bin works in the pub industry which has very strong ties with gangs, he threatened the thief that he will find him and punish him unless he returns the phone at the specified address.

Days later Zou received a parcel, which didn’t have the phone, but his SIM card and 11 pages of carefully handwritten contact numbers. You can imagine that it would take a while to copy more than a thousand contact numbers from your phone to a paper, but surprisingly the thief did it. I suppose the thief’s hand is swelling,’ Zou quoted.

Now it may be a difficult task for Zou Bin to add all these numbers in his new phone but on the other hand Chinese internet users gave the thief plaudits for his efforts, dubbing him ‘the conscience of the theft industry.

Facebook is testing a redesign of its mobile application for Android. Just like the recently launched new Facebook Messenger, this application features flat minimalistic UI.

The new design includes a title banner on the top left, where as a search icon is added with the chat on the right. The notifications tab which includes Friend requests, Messages and other Notifications now also include News feed and Menu icons.

new-facebook-android-appThe Status, Photo and Check In buttons are also moved to the bottom, which makes it very easy to post a status and you don’t have to scroll all the way up.

The new version also includes new Permissions, as the application can now access your messages, modify calendar events, set a wallpaper and change the audio settings.

Its not clear that when the company is going to release this update. AndroidPolice has provided the APK file of new version but unfortunately the UI is controlled from the server side and even if you are using this APK chances are that you might not be able to see the new design.
