IMDb banned in Pakistan without Any Reason, Which One’s Next? |
IMDb banned in Pakistan without Any Reason, Which One’s Next? Posted: 21 Nov 2013 05:10 AM PST After YouTube the next popular website to be banned in Pakistan is IMDb. For those who don’t know, Internet Movie Database (IMDb) is an online database of information related to films, television programs and video games. This includes actors, production crew personnel, and fictional characters featured in these three visual entertainment media. IMDb is one of the top sites accessed from Pakistan. Alexa ranks imdb.com on number 16 just below Twitter, so that means its accessed by hundreds of thousands users daily. I myself visit this portal daily to get latest information about the upcoming movies or to read user reviews about the movies I am planning to watch. That includes movies from Hollywood and now even Pakistani movies are getting much appreciation there. One might ask why IMDb is banned as its just an information portal that has nothing to do with Blasphemous material or anything else? Unfortunately no specific information has been provided by the Telecommunication authority in this regard other than a message that tells you the content of website is prohibited to be viewed in Pakistan. So be ready, may be the next website to get banned is Facebook or even Wikipedia, otherwise raise your voice against government censorship.
