Nokia starts rolling out Lumia Black Update, Lumia 1020 & 925 got it first Posted: 10 Jan 2014 06:44 AM PST Here is a good news for Nokia Lumia smartphone owners, starting today Nokia has begun pushing “Lumia Black” update for Windows Phone 8 devices around the world. Lumia 1020 and 925 are the first ones to get this software update, with others to follow in the coming weeks. Just like the “Amber” update, Lumia Black brings many new features including some camera enhancements to the Nokia smartphones. Lets have a look at what’s included in this update: App Folder: Nearly every smartphone OS gives you an option to group applications or to create folders, but sadly Windows Phone didn’t has this feature. But don’t worry after upgrading to Lumia Black you can download this application and your Windows Phone experience will become more fluid. Nokia Glance screen 2.0: Many Nokia users are familiar with the glance screen which offers quick details like time and notifications and remains always visible on the screen. Good thing that it doesn’t eat much battery and saves you time. Though Lumia Amber introduced Glance to Lumia smartphones but it was limited to clock, low battery and silent icons only. With the new update now you can will get notifications about missed calls, messages, email, outlook, calendar and from any other application that has notifications enabled — all that at a glance. Bluetooth LE: Bluetooth low energy will now be enabled across the full Windows Phone 8 Lumia range for compatible gadgets like the Adidas MiCoach accessories. Nokia Refocus: Support for Nokia Refocus (An app that allows you to take a photo and change the focus point later) will be available for all Lumia devices having 1GB of RAM or more. Nokia Beamer: Beamer is no longer restricted to just photos, you can now transfer documents, presentations, anything you like, to any HTML5-enabled screen by simply scanning a QR code on the screen. It's coming to all of the phones with 1GB RAM upwards. Nokia Camera: The combination of Nokia Pro Camera and Smart Camera, dubbed as Nokia Camera which has been only available for PureView smartphones is now coming to the rest of the Lumia range. Nokia Camera update also brings raw DNG support for Lumia 1020 owners – something that's already available for Lumia 1520. Nokia Storyteller: Debuted on the new Nokia Lumia 1520 and Lumia 2520 this app comes to other Lumia smartphones. It arranges your photos for you, by date and by place, making it easier to tell the stories behind your pictures, and give extra context through the close integration of interactive maps. New Imaging algorithms: The Lumia Black update further improves the image quality, especially in Lumia 1020. Among others, the improvements include a new oversampling algorithm, making your images more natural looking with reduced noise, while ensuring your photos remain sharp. Microsoft improvements: The Lumia Black update also brings a series of enhancements from Microsoft to Nokia Lumia smartphones. These include safe driving mode, customized ringtones for each contact, ability to close apps within the in multitasking view and lock the screen rotation if you wish. How to get Lumia Black update? The Lumia Black update has been pushed out now for Lumia 1020 and Lumia 925 smartphones in Pakistan, other models in the range will follow in the coming weeks. Your Nokia Lumia smartphone automatically checks for updates every week, and will notify you when it finds one. Otherwise, you can go to Settings -> Phone update and check for yourself. If Lumia Black is ready for your phone, you'll be able to download and install it straight from that screen.
