Facebook Chat now Shows If your Friends are Online from Desktop or Mobile Device Posted: 19 Nov 2013 12:12 AM PST Facebook is always trying something new to improve the user experience, this time its messaging system. The new Facebook chat lets you know not only which friends are online but whether they are from a computer or mobile device. This new feature will help users to better communicate, as previously it was a bit hard to determine if your friend is online from a mobile device or on desktop. Now Web • will mean that the person is currently on the desktop version of the site and Mobile • means that your friends is currently using Facebook or Messenger on their phones/tablets. Facebook already had a special feature for mobile users that shows a mobile icon to your friends if you are connected to Facebook but not active. It also provides information when the user was seen active — like 20 m means the person was active on messenger 20 minutes ago, but now may be he is offline. With the help of this new Web/Mobile feature you will know in a second that if a person is on mobile or using the web version via computer. This features is rolling out gradually and may not be available for all users. Currently only web version is out, but hopefully this feature will also be extended to mobile application. Warid Continues Spreading Think Pink Thought Posted: 18 Nov 2013 08:59 PM PST 'Think Pink' is a joint campaign of Warid and Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre that is aimed at creating awareness on breast cancer, its symptoms and early diagnosis. Studies have shown that early detection of breast cancer can result in a survival rate of over 90%. Unfortunately, Pakistan has the highest incidence of breast cancer in Asia. Although it is a completely curable form of Cancer if diagnosed timely and as in most of the critical cases reported, the patients were unable to identify the problem just because of not being aware of it. Warid's female staff were trained to volunteer to spread the 'Think Pink' thought. Dr. Faisal Sultan, CEO SKMCH&RC, while speaking on the collaborative effort between Warid and Shaukat Khanum said:

Huawei Ascend P6 to get Android KitKat, Octa-core version is also Confirmed Posted: 17 Nov 2013 10:31 PM PST Its no doubt that Huawei’s flagship device Ascend P6 turned out to be a huge success. Starting from the launch event in London and availability in Europe, Asia and other parts of the globe bundled with the nice looks did the magic. As a Huawei user in Pakistan, my biggest concern is the software updates. Usually Huawei phones never get updates for the newer versions of Android, though bug fixes and other patches are pushed regularly but no major OS upgrade. That’s why many users including me were worried that how soon Ascend P6 will get the Android Jelly Bean 4.3 upgrade? But here is the good news, Huawei has decided to skip 4.3 and directly going directly for 4.4 KitKat in January next year. Huawei announced this news on the Chinese site Baidu that starting from January next year Ascend P6 owners will get Android 4.4 KitKat treatment with EmotionUI 2.0 over it (Which is currently in closed beta). Other than the software update company is trying to rectify the errors in the Ascend P6. Huawei’s president XuXin Quan has announced that they are working on Ascend P6 S, that will be almost identical to the current flagship device but its now packed with an octa-core processor. We all knew that Huawei is working on a new chipset to replace the current K3V2. The new processor is equipped with a revolutionary cooling technology which enables the processor to auto-charge when running at very high temperatures while cooling the processor as well. This will provide longer standby time to the device.
We will let you know the availability and pricing of this new device in Pakistan very soon so keep checking back. The post Huawei Ascend P6 to get Android KitKat, Octa-core version is also Confirmed appeared first on PakZindabad. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Going like Hot Cakes, Sony sold One Million PlayStation 4 units in 24 hours Posted: 17 Nov 2013 08:47 PM PST Sony’s new PlayStation 4 is selling like the hot cakes. Available only in the United States and Canada for now more than 1 million units are sold in less than 24 hours. PS4 is set to launch in Latin America and Europe on Nov 29. The 1 million sales in 1 day makes it the fastest selling PlayStation console yet, beating the record of PlayStation 2 launch in Japan. Some PS4 users have reported hardware issues with initial units, including faulty HDMI output ports and boot failures. Sony said the hardware problems appeared to be "isolated incidents," limited to a very small number of consoles. Sony’s rival Microsoft is also set to launch its Xbox One on Friday, November 22. Xbox is a little costly but it is sold with Kinect voice and motion controllers. So lets see how does it perform as compared to PS4. Mobile Services will Remain Suspended on 9th & 10th Muharram Posted: 13 Nov 2013 06:30 AM PST According to a report Federal government has decided to suspend mobile phone services in major cities of Pakistan on 9th and 10th Muharram to provide protection to the Ashura processions. A list has been provided to the Telecom authority to suspend the cellular services in 25 cities, including Lahore, Karachi, Hyderabad, Multan and Peshawar. It merits mentioning here that the mobile phone services suspension on special occasions was introduced by Former Interior Minister Senator Rehman Malik. The new government has abolished this practice since they took control but it seems like that its the only way to control terrorism. Dual SIM Huawei Ascend G610 : Unboxing & Hands-on Review Posted: 12 Nov 2013 07:51 PM PST Last month Huawei launched a mid-range smartphone Ascend G610 in Pakistan. This is the first phone by Huawei to offer Dual-SIM functionality. Available in two colors; Black & White this smartphone is priced at Rupees 20,000 with one year Warranty of Airlink Communication (Official Distributor of Huawei). I have had a chance to put my hands on this device and prepared a short review for you guys, First lets get straight to the un-boxing and hands-on video: Design and Build Quality: The first thing you will notice about this phone the size, It is big but still not categorized as phablet. The well-crafted phone body is entirely made of plastic and to be honest at first look this phone looks like a member of Galaxy series — but its different in many ways. The phone dimensions are 142mm x 73.6mm and its 9.9mm thick, though the clever design of the back panel makes it look like a lot thinner. The phone weighs 170 grams and it sure weighs more than other Huawei phones except Ascend Mate. The front side is dominated with a large 5-inch IPS LCD, IPS screens are known for wider viewing angles. It offers a Quarter-HD resolution of 960 x 540 pixels (220 ppi pixel density). As compared to the previous model G510 there isn’t much difference. The screen sharpness and color saturation is good but not the ideal. The position of ear speaker makes it look like a part of the frame, other than that there are light sensors, notifications LED and front facing camera along with Huawei logo above the screen. Below the screen we have the usual three touch sensitive keys. It seems like Huawei is always experimenting with the position of USB port and headphones jack. This phone has 3.5mm headphones jack on the top and USB port along with mic on the bottom. The right side features power and volume rocker keys. The phone comes in two colors Black and White, I am not sure if the black version has a matte finish but we have got the white one, which has a glossy plastic back plate. The back features a 5-megapixel auto-focus camera with LED light and Huawei Logo beneath it. The speaker grille is placed on the bottom left. Removing the back plate reveals two slots for normal (Mini SIM) cards and one for micro-SD Card along with Battery compartment. Just like the Ascend G510 the power and volume rocker keys are embedded in the back plate. Operating System and EmotionUI: Ascend G610 comes with Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1 out of the box with Huawei EmotionUI on top of it. If you are new to Android or don’t like the fancy animations and flying/fading app drawers you will love the EmotionUI. It puts all your apps, widgets and shortcuts on the main screen, you can arrange these items in folders on multiple screens — so its all easy and fun. I think there’s no need to tell you that you can always install a custom launcher and use a theme of your own taste. Ascend G610 comes with EmotionUI version 1.6, which is a little different from what we have seen previously on flagship Ascend P6. Of course it adds some SIM management features for Dual-SIM standby. It allows you to assign different tasks to the SIMs, for example you can preset one SIM to be used for calling and other for SMS — you can also set which SIM has to be used for Internet/GPRS or you can set it to “Always Ask” mode. The calls and SMS made from both SIMs are marked and showed in different colors. In this version of EmotionUI 1.6, shortcut toggles in the notifications menu are gone, replaced with the stock Android 4.2 shortcuts. It also shows the user icon but won’t allow you to add multiple users. (A feature introduced in Jelly Bean 4.2 to make different user accounts on a single phone) Other than the toggles the Permissions Manager is also missing, which allows you to restrict applications to access your contacts, SMS, location and Internet. Its a very handy and much needed application as it allows you take control of your phone — I don’t know why Huawei has removed this application. I have tried installing it myself but it doesn’t seem to work as intended. The only notable addition is the ON/OFF schedule which allows you to set a time to turn off the phone automatically and then starts at a set time. (Probably to save battery and have a peaceful sleep at night). Performance and Battery Life: Huawei Ascend G610 is powered by Huawei’s HiSilicon quad-core SoC clocked at 1.2GHz with 1GB of RAM. You won't feel any lag while scrolling the homescreens, browsing websites, running multiple applications at the same time. You may encounter a little lag while play some resource hungry games. Aslo keep in mind that the phone Internal memory is very limited so there are chances that you might not be able to install some big size games/apps. I have tested it by playing the latest Airborne game in the Asphalt series and it runs very smooth and the graphics are also good. Considering its specifications the phone provides satisfactory results in the benchmarks, a screenshot of different benchmarks is attached below. The phone can run HD videos and VoIP applications like Skype and Viber works just fine. The regular calls and texting is also flawless and you get good signal reception as well as the Wireless connectivity is very quick. G610 is packed with a 2150mAh battery which seems to be quite adequate for this phone on the paper but the actual performance depends upon your usage. The battery lasts for almost two days after a full charge after normal usage and the standby time is remarkable. Camera & Video: On the other hand the front facing camera performance is disappointing, The colors are washed out image quality is not good. This might be a software issue, but its more likely due to cheap camera hardware. Just like the previous models you can use the Camera LED as a torch in case of emergency with a dedicated torch application. Final Words: As compared to other Dual-SIM smartphones in this price range (PKR 20,000 or less), Huawei Ascend G610 has a better build quality and it provides a smooth performance on a big screen, which offers sharp colors and wide angle viewing — though it lacks a little in the Camera department but still this phone leaves a good impression. I think Huawei has finally made a wise decision to provide customers what they want in a reasonable price, so they don’t have to compromise on quality by picking up cheap Chinese re-branded phones. When it comes to Dual-SIM smartphones, usually we have two choices, QMobile and Samsung — The problem with QMobile is that their handsets are of poor quality and the low RAM creates much troubles. Samsung phones have good build quality but in this price range all the phones have tiny screens and outdated hardware/software. Personally I like this device, but to grab the attention of masses — Huawei has to drop the price a little and Introduce one or two more Dual SIM smartphones, May be one high end and one low end.
